2016 Cholsey Bluebirds
Summer Tournament

__________________________________________________________________________
TOURNAMENT REPORT, RESULTS & NEXT YEAR

We had 173 teams participate over the weekend, playing 618 matches altogether.
A REPORT together with full RESULTS of all age groups and including the Raffle Prize Winner, will be posted on this website by the end of June for your reference.

It should be pointed out at this time, that next year will be our GOLDEN JUBILEE and we hope to have some special events taking place during the season, and especially at our 2017 Tournament on Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th May.

Saturday 27th May 2017

0930 start : Under 7s (5 aside),
Under 11s
(6 a-side) & Under Boys 15s (6 a-side)

1430 start : Under 9s (6 aside),
Under 13s
(6 a-side) & Under Boys 16s (5 a-side)
Sunday 28th May 2017
0930 start : Under 8s (5 aside),
Under 10s
(6 aside) & Under 12s (6 a-side)

1430 start : Boys Under 14s (6 a-side),
Under 18s
(5 a-side) & Under 21s (5 a-side)

IMPORTANT
As almost ALL age groups this year were full, and it is anticipated there will be an even greater demand for places next year, you are advised to get your entries in early.  As we have the tradition of giving all teams who enter a reasonable number of 8 minute games (10 for older groups)  - minimum of 5, most 6 or 7, and some 8 or 9 games, the maximum number of teams we can cater for in any specific age group is 21.

A new Invitation Letter & Entry Form will be available on this site from October 1st 2016 should managers wish to secure their places early and not risk the possibility of being refused because we are full in their age groups.

TOURNAMENT RAFFLE - FANTASTIC RESULT
Our grateful thanks to everyone who bought tickets or donated prizes

Just a quick update for your information :
Due to the marvelous support from everyone who came to the Tournament over the weekend, The Raffleman (Dave Evans) and his more attractive assistant on Saturday morning (Louise McAlister), are pleased to announce that over 2000 tickets were sold raising the superb total of £866.53.
By the end of the day, some people were kind enough to donate some of their loose change too - hence the 35p !

After expenses for some of the bought prizes (balls) and a few other items, the total profit will be around £750.

This will be shared equally between the CLUB and The THAMES VALLEY AIR AMBULANCE - each receiving at least £375 - not quite the £400 target Dave had set himself, but more than last year's £325 donation.

HOWEVER, it could easily exceed the £400 because BUILDBASE have donated a shower (in 3 parts) :
  • STORM Concealed Shower Valve SV2202 - RRP is £398 - can get it on the Internet for around £240
  • CROSSWATER Zion VS Showerhead (200x200mm) - RRP £169 - on the internet at around £110
  • BRISTAN Fixed Shower Arm - RRP is £75 - internet at around £45

Picture
Picture

Total RRP is £642 . . . . internet price almost £400

It was decided by the Club that this wasn't really suitable as a Raffle Prize, better to AUCTION the 3 as one lot.

So, if you are having a new shower or want to update an old one, and you like the look of these. then why not make a BID.
Contact dave.vans@virgin.net   . . . . . . BIDS CLOSE AT THE END OF JUNE . . . unless - see below**.

I will regularly update on BIDS received on  . . . "Latest News" page.

YOU REALLY COULD GET A FANTASTIC BARGAIN  !!!!!!!!

All we need to exceed the £400 target is another £60 - NOW getting the above for just £60 would be the steal of the year !

**HOWEVER, if someone bids £250 -
THEY WILL IMMEDIATELY SECURE IT and the AUCTION WILL CEASE.

Another £250 will mean £500 to both the Club and The Air Ambulance - a truly amazing figure.

STOP PRESS

Due to a late withdrawal, there is now ONE PLACE available for an UNDER 13s team.

If interested in filling this place, please get in touch with GLENN HAWKINS - main organiser :
Home : 01491 651314
Mobile : 07592 533244
glenn@clearconstruction.co.uk

49 Station Road Cholsey Oxon OX10 9PX

He will offer you a discount and may waver the entrance fee completely - he's a generous man.

ALSO, GREAT NEWS regarding the Weather - latest now is NO SHOWERS AT ALL over  the weekend.

FINAL TOURNAMENT UPDATE - FIVE

FOR MANAGERS OF TEAMS ENTERED
Brilliant - best number of entries for quite a few years - 174 - many thanks to all the managers of the teams for your support - very much appreciated. We hope you, your players and your supporters all have a great day with us - some superb football, some fun & laughter and, go home with some enjoyable memories . . . . not to mention the possibility of winning something in the amazing raffle (over 40 prizes worth nearly £1200) - but would have to wait for your prize as the draw is on Sunday - supporting THE THAMES AIR AMBULANCE.
Don't forget, you get a FREE RAFFLE TICKET on production of the Programme at the Raffle Stall.

Weather forecast looks pretty good for this weekend - just the 30% possibility of showers on Saturday afternoon - Sunday looks perfect. Let's hope the weather men are right !

FOR PARENTS of Cholsey Teams
Just a reminder that if you can spare some time this THURSDAY & FRIDAY evenings, from 5:30, to help set up - that would be fantastic.
Also, don't forget to bring along some CAKES on the day your child is playing AND, if you have anything suitable as a RAFFLE PRIZE, bring that along with you too.
We are again supporting The Thames Air Ambulance - sharing equally the proceeds between ourselves and them - last year donated £325 - would be excellent if we could raise more this year.

If you are wondering why the number of teams that can play is not the same for each age group, it is because we have a long established tradition at Bluebirds that we give all teams who enter, a fair number of games in order for their squads to get an equal amount of playing time as is possible.
We have 12 pitches altogether, of which 4 are smaller for the younger age groups.
There is a maximum number of matches that we can cater for in total (particularly for age groups that play in the morning) and, if one age group has more than 18 entries, this can reduce the maximum number in other age groups.
Also, the older age group matches are longer which in turn reduces the maximum number of matches possible for those groups.

We try very hard to ensure matches are played according to the schedule in the programme, leaving an adequate amount of time between matches, so managers and players don't have to rush around AND aren't hanging around either, waiting for their next match.

The only problem we've ever had was a couple of years ago when matches on one pitch in one age group went so smoothly (down to the referees and teams being ready to go on as soon as a match finished), it gained about 15 minutes over the course of the morning - and we had to "slow down" !

To find out if the above places are still available in your age group, contact our Chairman & Tournament Organiser, GLENN  HAWKINS on/at :

TOURNAMENT UPDATE ONE

So far we have had over 70 entries for our Tournament, not including Bluebirds teams. At this stage last year we only had just over 50. So it looks like we could have a bumper entry.
As some age groups are filling up fast, it's essential that any Club who is thinking of joining us, completes their entry form as soon as possible.
Last year, 3 teams left it until the last week - they were too late !

Our weekend Tournament is something not just our Club looks forward too, but also numerous local Clubs who have been attending for many, many years. We're not quite sure when our first Tournament was held, but it was back in the 70s.

To quote just a few of the many comments received by the those who attended last year :
Hi Glen
Great weekend great tournament...
Best wishes to you and the family and Cholsey. If it wasn't for you and your efforts it wouldn't be so enjoyable. I've penciled in for next year already.

Regards      Keith Godfrey (Referee)

I would just like to say well done on the organisation of Saturday's tournament.  I travelled from South Wales to watch my grandson take part in the U15s for Crowmarsh (they won). I have organised rugby tournaments of the same nature so know how much needs to be done. I really enjoyed the day.
Thank you.
Regards      J D Ellis (Grandfather)

Hi Glenn.
It was a pleasure to referee at your tournament this year and will see you next year please put me down on your list.
Kind Regards       Mike Wheeler (Referee)

At the risk of establishing a mutual admiration society, well done you and your team! Great to be part of it. Have a fab trip to Amsterdam.      Paul Dick (Referee)

Hi Glenn
Just a quick email to say what a great, well organised tournament you hosted over the weekend. All the boys at Abingdon Youth Greens under 11s and parents really enjoyed the tournament. The boys had a lot of football and really enjoyed being in the final but sadly lost to Harwell. All the boys were very impressed with their Trophies.
Thanks again
Sarah Studd (Abingdon Youth Greens)

Hi Glenn
Just a quick thank you for an excellent tournament this year - the best I've done. Fantastic pitches, fast turnover, great goal sizes and real value for money.
Thanks          Adam (Southcote Colts u14s)

The emphasis is very much on enjoyment and respect - for players, parents, supporters and officials alike.

enjoying some success . . . at last !

We have twelve pitches and regularly have 140-180 teams entering from throughout Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties, involving a total in excess of 3,000 players, parents and supporters over the two days.

Depending on the number of entries for each age range, teams are organised into appropriate sized groups to ensure the maximum number of matches and a worthwhile amount of playing time for every squad player.

Glenn Hawkins, our Chairman and Tourrnament Co-ordinator, is highly organised and extremely efficient - infamous for his very strict timekeeping. Most teams have been coming year after year because they know their teams will get to "play" rather than having to "hang around".

We have the capacity for up to 24 teams in most age groups and many of the age groups get filled up extremely quickly.

As well as all the exciting matches, there will be a large slide and bouncy castle for the youngsters (weather permitting), hardest shot for different ages with prizes and a huge variety of refreshments - including a superb BBQ, delicious ice-creams, home-made cakes, tasty rolls, refreshing drinks and succulent sweets.

OUR FAMOUS RAFFLE

up to 40 prizes worth around £1000 on offer

We make every effort to ensure the whole family enjoys their day with us and you might even go home with more than you bargained for - one of the fantastic Raffle Prizes including a £100 first prize - and over 30 other prizes up for grabs - worth nearly a staggering £1000 in total.
(Click HERE for a list of prizes & prize-winners from last year).
Also, when you buy a programme you are automatically entitled to a FREE ticket for the Raffle.

We are again supporting THE THAMES AIR AMBULANCE.
Proceeds will be split equally between Cholsey Bluebirds & The Air Ambulance and, with the support of everyone who participates at the tournament, especially the hundreds of supporters, we very much hope to be able to donate more than the £325 we gave to this very worthwhile organisation last year - our target is £400.
