SUMMER TOURNAMENT 2018
IMPORTANT
Please visit TOURNAMENT LATEST NEWS page for some important information on
Dog & Smoking Restrictions for supporters of the U7s, U8s & U9s teams.
THE WEATHER
It looks like the weather this weekend will be hot, perhaps very hot. Each team is advised to bring a gazebo or two for shade. We are ordering extra drinks so there should be plenty for everyone to buy as necessary from the refreshment stall.
CAR PARKING
You are requested NOT to park in the surrounding roads, especially Station Road, as it is a bus route. Two years ago, the police had to be called to tow away a vehicle that was stopping a bus getting past - it cost the owner over £200.
We use part of Cholsey Recreation ground as a car park, so there is plenty of space to accomodate up to 1000 cars. The entrance is in Station Road, and the car park is right next to our back field where we hold the Tournament - so very little walking.
The cost remains at £3 per car which includes our full colour programme - this is in line with all other local Tournaments' car-parking charges.
We thank you in antcipation of your co-operation.
TOURNAMENT ENTRIES
MINI TOURNAMENT UPDATE SEVEN
Thank you to the 186 teams that have entered our Tournament next weekend. The highest number we've had for a good many years - due to a late influx over the past 2 weeks, after the original closing date !
In fact, I've had to turn away nearly 20 further teams due to their age groups being full.
It would be great next year to receive your entries in good time and not leave them to the last minute. I hate refusing, but with our 12 pitches and time factors, we couldn't hold many more than the 732 matches arranged for over next weekend.
Dave Evans has now included all the fixtures in the Programme, and it will be off to the printers (ALBRY Print & Design in Wallingford) first thing tomorrow morning.

UPDATE SIX - ENTRIES NOW CLOSED
However, if a team has made an inquiry and has indicated they would like to enter a team but haven't yet confirmed 100%, I sometimes give them the name TEAM X. Also, I sometimes put in a fictitious TEAM X to even up the number of teams in each group for a particular age, in the hope that I may receive a very late entry/inquiry.
SO EVEN THOUGH ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED in order for me to arrange the timings/pitches for the 600+ matches we play and get them to Dave Evans for inserting in the programme ready to take to the printers at 7:30am on Monday,
it could be that a "late" entry might become "TEAM X" - so worth giving me a call over the weekend or e-mailing me.

UPDATE ONE
They are coming in thick and fast now.
Each age group is capped at a maximum of 24 teams although some groups may have to be limited to 21 teams.
Don't leave it too late to enter - we hate to disappoint any club wishing to join us for what is probably one of the best organised Tournaments in Oxfordshire, perhaps the whole country.
Don't take our word for it, just ask any manager/parent/player/referee who has been to one.

Hi Glenn
Please can you let the committee, families and players associated with Cholsey Bluebirds Football Club know how well run and what a job you all do at Cholsey Football Cclub. I would like to thank you for letting me referee at you tournament and it's a pleasure to be involved and to support you all at your tournament please give me an email or call for next year.
Kind regards, Mike Wheeler (Referee)
Hi Glenn,
I just wanted to let you know how much our boys enjoyed your tournament last weekend.
We have played at Cholsey for years and you always do such a great job!
I had boys playing on both days and the atmosphere over the whole weekend was lovely and your organisation is brilliant. Everything runs to time and the extra touches like nettles being cut down mid games to help retrieve stray balls and pitches being re marked for our final did not go unnoticed.
I know how much goes into organising these things and your club do it really well.
Thanks for a great footballing weekend!
Katie Fanstone (ManagerParent)
Hi Glenn

TOURNAMENT ENTRIES' UPDATE 2
All Age-Groups are FILLING UP VERY FAST as last week I was receiving around 5 more each day. We are now up to 127 entries, which is 10 more than at this stage last year. We ended up with 173.
As with some from our own club, a lot of managers of other clubs don't enter until the last minute. Last year I had 35 teams enter the week before the closing date and another 20 the following week.
Please don't be one of those who has left it too late - had to refuse 7 late entries last year as their age groups were full.
IF COMING, PLEASE GET YOUR ENTRY TO ME ASAP - closing date is this
FRIDAY 28th April & provided I receive it by Friday, you are guaranteed to be accepted.
However, I can accept late entries if spaces available - need to phone me from next Tuesday 2nd May.
NB: I cannot accept any entries whatsoever after Friday 19th May as the programme with teams/fixtures will be off to the printers first thing on Monday morning.

GOLDEN JUBILEE Summer Tournament
VERY IMPORTANT
In 2016, we had 173 teams participate over the weekend, playing 618 matches altogether. As almost ALL age groups last year were full, and it is anticipated there will be an even greater demand for places this year, you are advised to get your entries in early. As we have the tradition of giving all teams who enter a reasonable number of 8 minute games (10 minutes for older groups) - minimum of 5, most 6 or 7, and some 8 or 9 games, the maximum number of teams we can cater for in any specific age group is usually 21. If any age groups have less than 21, then other groups could possibly go up to 24 teams. |

Hello Glenn
Just wanted to drop you a note to congratulate you and the team on the tournament this week end - really well run to time, but particular thank you for arranging the U10 leagues according to ability, this meant all our games were really competitive. we didn't top our group but one result going the other way for most teams would have made a big difference
Thanks again and see you next year

Hi. Just to say well done for such a great event. Congratulations to all the family!

Hi Glenn,
Just a note to say how much I enjoyed your tournament this weekend. I spent one and a half days there with the under 7s, 10s and 13s and I thought that your team did a great job all round. Friendly welcoming people, well
organised and what a performance by Dave Evans collecting money for raffle tickets! Me and my three boys had a great time.
Best wishes and see you next year.

If there are any other managers, players, referees or parent supporters viewing this page who came last year (and/or previous years), we would be delighted to hear your comments - good or bad - about our Tournament.
We think it is a fantastic and well-organised weekend, one of the best in Oxfordshire, trying really hard to ensure everyone goes home at least with some happy and enjoyable memories - perhaps a trophy too, and, of course, a full stomach as well !
Contact Dave Evans (the Raffle Man & Website Manager) if you wish to add to the above comments at :
