4 prizes still to claim - have contacted the winners by phone & left messages (twice) but they haven't got back to me.
If I haven't heard from them by Friday 15th June, I will auction the unclaimed prizes at our Club Presentation Evening, with half the proceeds going to the TVAA.

Altogether, 2970 tickets were sold, with Bluebirds parents buying 997 of them (34%).
So, it wasn't surprising that they won 12 of the 31 prizes on offer (38%).

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WONDERFUL SUPPORT.
If anyone wishes to donate a PRIZE at next year's TOURNAMENT RAFFLE, let me know NOW, and I will contact you next year.

MINI TOURNAMENT UPDATE SEVEN

Thank you to the 186 teams that have entered our Tournament next weekend.  The highest number we've had for a good many years  - due to a late influx over the past 2 weeks, after the original closing date !
In fact, I've had to turn away nearly 20 further teams due to their age groups being full.
It would be great next year to receive your entries in good time and not leave them to the last minute. I hate refusing, but with our 12 pitches and time factors, we couldn't hold many more than the 732 matches arranged for over next weekend.

Dave Evans has now included all the fixtures in the Programme, and it will be off to the printers (ALBRY Print & Design in Wallingford) first thing tomorrow morning.

TOURNAMENT ENTRIES update SIX - NOW CLOSED
ENTRIES NOW CLOSED

However, if a team has made an inquiry and has indicated they would like to enter a team but haven't yet confirmed 100%, I sometimes give them the name TEAM X. Also, I sometimes put in a fictitious TEAM X to even up the number of teams in each group for a particular age, in the hope that I may receive a very late entry/inquiry.

SO EVEN THOUGH ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED in order for me to arrange the timings/pitches for the 600+ matches we play and get them to Dave Evans for inserting in the programme ready to take to the printers at 7:30am on Monday,
it could be that a "late" entry might become "TEAM X" - so worth giving me a call over the weekend or e-mailing me.

PLAYERS WANTED

Next year's U15s Team, managed by Dave Evans, is looking for 2 or 3 new players to join an enthusiastic group of lads, who on their day, would give any team a real battle, as they proved by getting through to the S-F of the Knockout Shield this year, losing narrowly in a very competitive and sporting match.
However, it's been a tough season in the league and we are likely to be in the "D" League next year, depending on the number of teams entering the U15s OMYFL.
Our philosophy is quite simply, to go out and enjoy ourselves by playing our best - putting in a 100% effort, and working together and supporting each other as a team.
If interested, please contact me at : dave.vans@virgin.net
Many thanks.

Cholsey Primary School PTA are running the bar and providing some tasty hot food (they keep the profits and have raised over £2000 since 2011), and we are also supporting CHOKO (sponsoring a barrel at their Beer Festival for the 9th year), CHIPS (Cholsey’s own Summer Playscheme – donated £100 each of the past 3 years) and Cholsey Bluebirds FC (given them £450 altogether). Along with some other local good causes, the total donations since our first Race Night in 2010 is £2050, another marvellous amount.

If you’ve never been to one before, you are guaranteed a fun evening.

MANSFIELD & NORTHAMPTON Home Match Tickets !
ARE YOU INTERESTED ?

At last year's Tournament Auction, a number of Professional Clubs donated tickets for home matches.
Sadly, nobody bid for the two vouchers - MANSFIELD TOWN & NORTHAMPTON TOWN.

With just a few home matches left for both teams, is there anyone (within Bluebirds or from another club) who wants them for just  £10 ?

Each is for TWO TICKETS, worth around £35-40.

Contact me at :  dave.vans@virgin.net

The money will go to The THAMES VALLEY AIR AMBULANCE.

U14s
After winning a classic match against Goring Robins 3-2  just before half-term to reach the Semi-Finals of the Trophy Cup, the team continued their "resurrection" beating Crowmarsh Orient 4-3 this morning. Mind you, we were 3-0 up at HT - so we won't talk about the first 20 minutes of the second half - but eventually, scored our winner with 5 minutes left.

Our S-F is against Cumnor Minors at home next Sunday (4th March) with a midday KO. All support would be very much appreciated - especially running the Tuck Shop as I'm sure all my parents would love to be able to watch the match being a S-F.

2018 TOURNAMENT

SPONSORSHIP, ADVERTISING, RAFFLE PRIZES & AUCTION

The cost or running our Summer Tournament increases each year. We have deliberately kept our entry fees at £30 for a number of years as we feel this is a reasonable amount for Clubs to pay - this more or less covers the costs of our Trophies & Referees.
However, as our main fund-raising event, we always welcome sponsors in order to try to increase our overall income to purchase/replace equipment & team kits, pay referees' match fees throughout the season, pay for the upkeep of our Pavilion & insurance, and various other expenses - in total, well over £10,000 annually.

We already have a number of Team Kit Sponsors and have 2 main sponsors for this year's Tournament - Thomas Merrifield & Miller Homes. We are very grateful for their support.

Also, at present, we have raised through advertising, nearly half the cost of printing our Tournament Programme, and would welcome any further interest from businesses, companies or even individuals.

On top of that, we already have some items and sponsors for some of the cash Prizes in our unique Tournament Raffle & Auction, the proceeds of which are shared equally between our Club and The Thames Valley - raised almost £1200 last year, donating £600 to The TVAA - the previous year they received £500.

Below are a number of options to support us in various ways at our Tournament either through your business or as an individual :
  • £30 : Sponsor a Referee : up to 15 refs : sponsor acknowledged on separate Refs' page with business logo / name on display by refreshment tent;

  • £70 : Sponsoring a Pitch : 12 pitches : sponsor receives full page advert plus logo on Pitch Map (centre pages) plus can display banner/board by pitch;

  • Minimum of £50 : Sponsoring the BBQ (sausages/burgers/chips/charcoal) : up to 4 sponsors : sponsor receives minimum of half page advert and logo / name displayed by refreshment tent;

  • £50/25 : Sponsoring a Cash Raffle Prize : no limit to number of prizes : All sponsors will be acknowledges in the programme and have a complimentary quarter/half page advert;

  • £20/£35/60 : Placing an Advert in the Full Colour Programme : 12 pages to fill : (quarter, half or full page : A5 page size);

  • Donating a Raffle Prize : any prize is welcome (we had nearly 40 prizes last year) : depending on the value of the prize, may be put into the Auction, donor to receive quarter/half/full page advert;

  • Donating an Auction Item : last year we had a Drill, Sound Bar, Event Tickets, Attraction Tickets, Golf 4-ball vouchers, plus other items, all worth well over £50 individually with some valued at nearly £200 : depending on the value of the item, donor to receive half/full page advert.

If you are interested in supporting us in one of the above ways, please contact Dave Evans at

APOLOGIES - BLUEBIRDS ARTICLE for the village FORTY MAGAZINE

Due to a lapse of memory on my part - the ARTICLE below should have appeared in the Cholsey Village latest edition of their FORTY magazine - I forgot to send it to the editors.
At my age, the memory, among other things, have ceased working !!!

An updated article will be included in the next edition around March.

UNDER 14s SHOCK HORROR . . . . a WIN !

Before last Sunday's crunch bottom of the table clash with Cumnor Minors, the Bluebirds U14s record was played 8, drawn 1 and
. . . . . . . LOST 7. We sat rock bottom of the table after Cumnor had won their first game the previous week.

Well, not bottom any more. We beat Cumnor 3-2 in what can only be described as a fantastic match.

After 5 minutes, a corner taken by Fin was expertly glanced into the far corner by Freddie.
After 10 minutes, a superb through ball from Ethan released Fin who nonchalantly rounded the keeper and slotted home.
Even better was to come. A corner was cleared to the edge of the box and Xander stormed in to hit a full blooded half-volley into the top left corner. The team were ecstatic.

However, as is often the case, we possibly relaxed a little just before half-time and Cumnor pulled one back - defence were a bit sloppy trying to clear a corner - our downfall all season !

Second half was fairly even for the first 15 minutes, with both sides having chances. However, with 20 minutes to go, Cumnor scored their second.

The remainder of the game seemed like an eternity, with backs to the wall defending from every single Bluebirds player. Unbelievable blocks and some excellent keeping and encouragement from Bradley (didn't realise he could scream so loudly) kept the scoreline the same - although we did have at least 3 breakaways, of which we should have scored from at least one, but Cumnor's defending matched ours.
Into the last 5 minutes, could we hold out . . . . YES . . . . just.

The supporters from both sides had been on the edge of their seats and when the final whistle went, they all burst spontaneously into rapturous applause - it was that kind of game with all 22 players and substitutes giving their all.

It was left to Dave to clear up the finger-nail shavings and pulled-out tufts of hair from the touchline.

Can the team repeat the performance against St Edmonds next Sunday - they sit in third spot, having lost their first game last Sunday. Perhaps they are on the start of a downhill spiral and, of course, we on on the up ! I'm forever an optimist . . . . well, supporting Leyton Orient for the last 57 years . . .
YOU HAVE TO BE !

A very Happy & Voiceless Dave Evans (manager)

UNDERS 8s TEAM TO FORM

The Cholsey Bluebirds are delighted to say that we are starting up a new Under 8s team (for children born between 1st September 2009 and 31st August 2011). While details are to be confirmed, we are planning to begin training sessions for the U8s as soon as we can, before Christmas, with a view to registering a team which will play competitively in the Oxford Mail Youth League in the New Year. Both boys and girls are very welcome.

We expect significant interest, so if you would like to learn more, please contact Paul O'Neill,
Paul.oneill@intelligent-data-collection.com
who has very kindly agreed to start up and manage the team.

We are also very keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping Paul out as an assistant manager for them. Again, please feel free to contact Paul about this at any time.

VERY IMPORTANT : CAR PARKING for THIS SUNDAY ONLY (5th Nov)

We have 4 teams at home this Sunday, 11s, 12s, 14s & 15s.
There is a Christening on Sunday morning in the village Pavilion at 11am.
The car park will be restricted severely as there will be a reserved area for guests.

To ease any possible congestion in Station Road, the Parish Council have said we can use Whitehead Meadow (Church Road entrance).

The Council would be grateful if those managers playing at home on Sunday, can inform their opposition managers of these car parking arrangements.
Thank you for your co-operation.

HUGE THANK YOU
to everyone, managers, parents, supporters and players in clearing the grass cuttings from the 3 pitches on Friday and Saturday last week - it really was a fantastic TEAM effort - well done.
Hopefully, we won't have to do that again !
