TOURNAMENT ENTRIES' UPDATE 2
All Age-Groups are FILLING UP VERY FAST as last week I was receiving around 5 more each day. We are now up to 127 entries, which is 10 more than at this stage last year. We ended up with 173.
As with other Clubs, a lot of managers don't enter until the last minute. Last year I had 35 teams enter the week before the closing date and another 20 the following week.
Please don't be one of those who has left it too late - had to refuse 7 late entries last year as their age groups were full.
IF COMING, GET YOUR ENTRY TO ME ASAP - closing date is this coming FRIDAY 28th April and provided I receive it by Friday, you are guaranteed to be accepted.
However, I can accept late entries if spaces available - need to phone me from next Tuesday 2nd May.
NB: I cannot accept any entries whatsoever after Friday 19th May as the programme with teams/fixtures will be off to the printers first thing on Monday morning.

TOURNAMENT ENTRIES' UPDATE 1
We still have spaces in ALL AGE GROUPS but the following are nearly at the maximum number :
Under 9s, Under 11s and Under 12s.
We can accept 21 teams in each age group, but if one or two are less, we could go up to 24.
At the present time, we have about 25 more teams entered than at this stage last year - we ended up with 173.
So please get your entries in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment - we had to refuse 7 late entries last year.
The official closing date for entries is FRIDAY 28th APRIL but if space, Glenn can accept late entries - need to phone him.

CHOLSEY GOLF SOCIETY'S RACE NIGHT
CHOLSEY GOLF SOCIETY'S RACE NIGHT
The Golf Society has supported Cholsey Bluebirds for a number of years and hopes to donate a beer & food hamper worth around £100 as a prize at our Tournament Raffle.
Dave Evans, the Raffle organiser is also Secretary of the Golf Society and all we ask from the Bluebirds' parents is that you make every effort to come along on the evening and join in with the "fun". Entrance is free and bets are only 50p so nobody is going to win or lose a fortune. It is very much a fun family event. The golf Society have established a tradition going back nearly 10 years, of making donations to local good causes - as well as The Bluebirds, they will be giving at least £100 each to CHIPS (Cholsey's own Summer Playscheme) and CHOKO (sponsoring a barrel at their Beer Festival in September). On top of they, Cholsey Primary School PTA organise the bar and food, keeping the profits. They have raised over £1500 since they were invited to participate in this way. Altogether, The Golf Society through their RACE NIGHT and CHARITY CHRISTMAS RAFFLE have raised in excess of £6000 for over 10 local groups and organisations - a record they are immensely proud of - can you help their cause this year ? U13s QUARTER-FINAL TROPHY CUP MATCH RESULT
My team have heard me say this before, many times over the years . . . . we were unlucky . . . . VERY - just ask everyone from Didcot : players, manager and parents.
It was very even the first 10 minutes and then, surprise, surprise, CB let in yet another soft goal from a corner when it should have been cleared.
However, CB were determined to show what they're made of and came back strongly, missing 2 good chances to draw level. In the end though, a superb move involving 4 triangular passes from a goal kick, saw CB's right winger Finbarr "Speedy" Sheedy zoom down the right outpacing DTW's full back and produce a pin-point cross for James Brown to deftly slot home - JB sang all the way back to his half . . . he was on "Fire" !
Three minutes later though, DTW's tricky little right winger out-thought a CB defender and was tripped just inside the box. Their penalty taker made no mistake.
This made the CB team even more determined to even things up and that man "Speedy" again out-paced their defenders and cut in to score from an acute angle . . . a brilliant individual goal.
The rest of the half was end to end with both sides creating chances and it was only some excellent saves from both keepers that kept the scoreline at 2-2.
The second half saw CB produce their best display of the season so far, creating 5 good chances in the first 10 minutes - 3 fantastic saves from their keeper and 2 hitting the woodwork was all they had to show though.
And then disaster ! As is often the case, a team under pressure has a bit of luck and DTW's took their chance - a corner half scrambled away found its way to one of their midfield players who coolly hit a firm shot just inside the post.
For any other team, they might have given up . . . but not CB U13s. They came back even stronger and yet another 3 wonderful saves - 1 was simply fantastic - and another 2 against the woodwork, stopped them equalising.
But, with 5 minutes left, a rare mix-up in DTW's defence allowed Freddie Horner to force home from close range. It was nothing less than CB deserved.
And so to Extra-time.
The first half was played mainly in midfield with no clear-cut chances created as all 22 players began to tire although CB were slightly the better of the two sides.
The second half of ET was similar until that is, DTW had a free-kick some 30 yards out. Their strongest and best player hit a firm shot which the CB's goalkeeper, Bradley Gardiner, managed to push onto the bar, only for the rest of the defence to stand still as one of their players couldn't miss the rebound from 3 yards.
For the last 3 minutes, CB pushed forwards in desperation to get an equaliser but it was a DTW player who found room to hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yards to make it safe, with just one minute to go.
At the final whistle, both teams shook hands sportingly. It had been a cracking cup-tie, full of passion and determination from both teams, some great defending, superb saves and brilliant goals. Everyone went away very happy to have witnessed such a match played in true FA Cup tradition . . . . although I think DTW's players, manger and parents were slightly the happier.

PS: The following week saw the team's reaction to their defeat - another superb TEAM performance. . . . WON 7-1 in the League at home to Headington Youth.
U13s QUARTER-FINAL TROPHY CUP MATCH
If you're at a loose end this Sunday (29th), then why not pop down to Cholsey Rec and support our U13s team in their Q-F Trophy Cup match against Didcot Town Youth Whites with a KO at 12:15.
Our Under 13s narrowly lost out in the "D" League promotion race, finishing 3rd, last Autumn. However, they gained revenge for their league defeat (3-4) against the champions Crowmarsh Orient by playing superbly and winning 1-0 in their cup match.
Now they face Didcot, who have gained promotion to the "B" League this Spring, having finished runners-up last year.
It promises to be a cracking match as our U13s won their first game 20 - 1 (yes, twenty) three weeks ago and are raring to play after the last two league matches have been postponed.
We look forward to seeing a huge crowd cheering us on.

JUBILEE Souvenir Booklet
CAN YOU HELP IN SOME WAY ?
As well as the CELEBRATION DAY (below), another idea put forward is to have a Souvenir Booklet containing past and present players’ memories/thoughts, together with a host of old photographs and, possibly, as many records of results/league tables/etc. from the past 50 years.
For this to happen we need YOUR HELP. If you or any family member has been associated with the Bluebirds over the years, we would be thrilled to hear from you. Contact : dave.vans@virgin.net
Dave will pass on your e-mails/photos to the Souvenir Booklet Editor(s) - yet to be decided, as hopefully, your responses could involve a lot of work.
IS THERE A CREATIVE PARENT WHO MIGHT BE WILLING TO TAKE ON THIS ROLE ?
Dave Miners has already done some research and found a photo of the VERY FIRST TEAM back in 1967, together with a number of others from the 1970s.

A Winning Start for the Under 15's
This Sunday afternoon (4th September) the Bluebirds under 15's team started their season with a warm up tournament in Wantage. The event was well attended by many of the top teams in their age group, including Harwell & Hendred FC and Bure Park FC.
The afternoon saw them proceed as group winners with four good wins and a tight score draw. They faced a competitive semi-final against North Leigh which ended 0-0 at full time, so a nail-biting penalty shoot-out followed . . . . with Cholsey finishing on top. Then a final against local rivals Harwell and Hendred followed. Another tight 0-0 match ended with a penalty shoot-out - and once again Cholsey finishing victorious . . . 3-4 on penalties.
Now the boys are really looking forward to getting started.........
