Cholsey Bluebirds Under 15s  2017/18

Picture
Summary from last season 2016/17 as Under 14s
We welcomed some new players at the start of the season and after a tough start against some very strong teams we started to gel and show some great football. As always, the effort and teamwork was there in abundance but we didn’t always get the results we deserved. A change of formation in the latter stages of the league saw a huge upturn in fortunes and we finished the season without conceding a goal in our last 3 matches and scoring 15, finishing mid-table, so the signs for next season are very positive. Out of all the Under 14's teams in the Oxford Mail League, we have also been awarded the Fair Play award, which is a great reflection of the team and parents who support week in week out.

FIXTURES
Teams will play other teams in their division home and away on a traditional league basis. We have reduced to 4 divisions to ensure more games, but this has meant some additional adjustments have been necessary and extra teams have had to be promoted.
Postponed games will be rescheduled for weekends where no game is scheduled subject to OMYFL Rules being followed. The Oxfordshire Cup and also the Berks & Bucks Cup will affect teams in this age group so some games will need to be moved on a round by round basis. In the event that league games finish early in 2016, a Spring Competition will be arranged.

Summary of the 2015-16 Season

The Under 13’s welcomed Jack & Freddie to the squad at the start of the season which took the number of players up to 13.  The team started the season with the usual great team spirit and a great work ethic. We struggled to get 11 out on the field at the same time in the early games and began with 4 losses, often with goals coming late in the games as the players tired. For most of the matches we competed really well and played the better football relying on skill and passing abilities.
Back in November we welcomed the league leaders at the time to Cholsey and with a hat-trick from Jayden and a goal from Billy we beat them for our first win of the season which seemed to give the team confidence from that point on.  An away game at Crowmarsh followed in the worst wind we’ve ever known, except for Jack Chapman in training – the 9 of Cholsey battled really hard with newcomers Jack Searle and Freddie, along with Thomas, Jacob, Alfie, Alex and Charlie stopping all attacks while Jack Chapman – with a broken arm and playing on pitch rather than in goal scored a couple. Hannah just missed with a header while Bailey came close on a couple of occasions. Even against the odds the team were playing brilliantly. This typified their play, hard work first which underpins the skills they all bring to the game.
This took us into the last 8 games of the season after the Christmas break on a real high. Cheered on loudly by an amazing group of parents who have been used to highs and lows in recent years the team won 6 of their last 8 matches. We beat Grove home and away who were favourites to win the league but only fell short after our two victories against them – some superb play and brilliant forward play and goal scoring, particularly by Connor, Billy and Jayden meant that all 3 of them finished the season with more than 10 goals each. They also beat Crowmarsh 7 – 2 for bragging rights against their mates at school.
The final game of the season saw us score 20 goals with 8 different players scoring out of the 11 who played. Total football at its best with Thomas bombing up the wing when normally in defence, Jack and Freddie scoring their first goals for Cholsey, Jayden with a hat-trick, Connor with 4 and Billy with 7! Over the season we scored 64 goals in 15 matches.

It’s been a great season with some flowing football and an incredible amount of hard work by all the team and as mentioned they’ve been encouraged all the way by the parents. The players have been a pleasure to coach again and to see their hard work rewarded with some outstanding, entertaining football is great. They should be proud of the team spirit they have shown whether winning or losing.

Summary of the 2014-15 Season

The Under 12’s have been through a season of Highs and not quite so Highs ! With a squad of 15 they still regularly found it a challenge to get 9 players on the field on a Sunday morning but that didn’t stop the effort and commitment of those who did turn out. Over the season they continued to play an attractive brand of football, creating but not always finishing many chances and only losing games late on as their legs tired given the extra workload.
One of the season highlights was in the Cup when playing 7 vs 9 against Berinsfield after a late change of kick-off time and the subsequent loss of a couple of players, the team, 2-0 down at half-time, came out fighting and ran out 4-2 winners. In the post-Christmas Spring League, after some Futsal sessions, the team started with a couple of thumping wins including an 11-2 victory at Summertown which saw 7 different players score, they topped the league for a few weeks but got pegged back and overtaken, finally finishing mid-table, but as one of the highest scorers in the League.
Over the season nearly every squad member scored and the teamwork, positive encouragement of their team mates and 100% commitment shown throughout was a credit to the players who have again been a pleasure to coach. Hopefully with a couple of additions to the squad we’ll go into the U13’s season playing 11-a-side with 11-a-side!
